December 2009 TD/TDX Tracking Test Results
Capital Dog Training Club held a combined TD/TDX test on Sunday, December 6, 2009. The tests were held at Oatlands Plantation in Leesburg, VA. The judges were Beth Goodbody of Virginia and Susan Boyd from Florida.
Saturday, the 5th, was plotting day. Mother Nature truly made is a challenging day with heavy snowfall and wind. Sometimes we couldn't see where we were going. The weather also made for slow plotting; but everyone stuck it out until the end. I was a little concerned about the roads for getting home and getting back to the test the following morning, but the road crews had everything cleared and the test was on!!
It was an all Sporting Dog test and the dogs came from as far west as Wisconsin, as far north as New York, and south as North Carolina. We had a banner day with three TD passes and three TDX passes.

Some may say that there is an unfair advantage with the snow, since you could see where the tracks went. But the handler must follow the dog and cannot guide the dog on the track. Snow will make tracking easier since the cold, moist surface will keep the scent close to the track.
A huge thank you to all the tracklayers and support team who gave up their weekend.
The tracklayers for the TD were: Nancy Swenson, Justine Barden, Kris Quinn, and Karen Blair.
The tracklayers for the TDX were: Shannon Hall, Amy Smith-Green, and me with crosstracks put in by Melissa Stagnaro and Joanne Ronning.
The driver for the judges on Sunday was Duncan Burt.
Mary Rice coordinated the food for both days. She did a lot of work setting up two tents plus tables and keeping us all well fed. Thanks to Mary Carson for braving the weather on Saturday to bring much appreciated chili and to Benita Bottom-Svitchan for supplying soup for Sunday. Also thank you to all who donated money and food.
And finally a huge thank you to Shannon Hall for doing an excellent job as the Test Secretary.
We look forward to some TDX passes at our next test on Sunday, March 7, 2010.
Enjoy the pics and Happy Tracking,
Deb Jackson
